The DPx Gear HEST/F Urban Milspec folder hits the "sweet spot" for a heavy duty, small frame-lock, every-day-carry knife. This knife does prove that big things DO come in small packages.
DPx Gear continues their legacy in both function and design with the HEST/F Urban. Like the HEST/F full-sized folder, it is built rock-solid and begs to be used as soon as you take it in hand. This knife packs a lot of features in its 3.8" frame without being overly complicated and getting in the way. Designed by Robert Young Pelton and made in the USA, it features a black G10 scale and stonewash finish blade.
The Blade: The HEST/F Urban Milspec has a drop point, hollow/saber grind blade allowing it to have a very stout blade but still cut and slice very efficiently. It stands apart from other knives with a notch cut into the top of the blade that serves as a bottle opener, pot lifter and quick open feature. Another great feature found only in DPx gear knives is the wire stripper/jimping which provides good thumb traction on top of the blade. The blade deploys smoothly on caged ball bearings using the thumb stud and it is sharp and ready to use right out of the box.
The Handle: One thing you will notice right away is how comfortable the HEST/F Urban Milspec is in your hand. It features a slightly textured front G10 scale with a rear titanium lock side and a dual function hex driver/lanyard hole which goes all the way through. The lockup is rock solid and a replaceable lock face comes standard so there's no sticky titanium engaging the blade. A deep carry clip is attached via the glass breaker to finish out the package.
