The Zero Tolerance 0850 is a bold and exciting collaboration effort between Dmitry Sinkevich and Todd Rexford. It is based on a fantastic custom knife the two knife-makers built together in 2016.
Dmitry and Todd have always admired each others work so maybe it was inevitable that they would eventually work together on a project. That time came in the early part of 2016. They talked and agreed to collaborate on a project. Dmitry provided an initial drawing of a concept. Todd worked out the design details and aesthetics. They went to work in Todds Colorado workshop, milling, sawing, sharpening, and polishing. Eventually, they made exactly two completely stunning knives which they sold almost instantly.
Zero Tolerance felt that two was not enough so they talked with Dmitry and Todd and they agreed to work with them on a production version of their collaboration and the 0850 is the result.
The 0850 features a blade made of CPM 20CV stainless steel with a two-tone, stonewash/satin finish. This powdered metallurgy steel offers fantastic edge holding and corrosion resistance. The 0850 opens manually by way of a decorative aluminum thumb stud with a clear anodize finish. The thumb stud is paired with the unique aluminum backspacer that has been turned and sculpted, then clear anodized as well. The handles on each side of this unusual backspacer are made from a carbon fiber composite material that maintains the benefits of carbon fiber while allowing it to take color, which in this case, is deep blue.
To keep the weight down on this big folder, Zero Tolerance added their patented Sub-Frame Lock with hardened steel lockbar insert. (The ZT Sub-Frame Lock is covered under US Patent 69.120.234.) A custom machined titanium clip with bead-blasted finish and black Teflon®-coated hardware round out the fantastic look of this extraordinary knife.
