Gunny Scandi 3V Smooth Spine
The Bark River Knives Gunny has now moved into second place in overall sales of Bark River knives and it is now available in a new model. The new Gunny Scandi is the drop point, scandi grind version of the standard Gunny. The Gunny Scandi knives are rampless and available with and without jimping on the spine.
The Gunny Scandi features a "Convex Scandi Grind”. A conventional Scandi grind starts on the flat of the blade and goes on a strait angle directly to the cutting edge. A “Convex Scandi Grind” curves outward as the grind goes from the flat of the blade and extends right directly to the cutting edge. Being a convex grind and the addition of CPM3V's toughness allows the use a Scandi grind without the fear of having the edge spine be not stout enough for the kind of edge retention we are used to on Bark River knives.
Contrary to modern thinking, original Scandi grinds were (like nearly all knives) convex grinds. The convex grind allows the edge to be supported by nearly 400% more metal.
The “Convex Scandi Grind” allows the knife user to have much better control of the cutting edge especially when doing delicate and/or precise woodcutting tasks. The size of the Gunny Scandi is just right light to medium-sized bushcraft tasks and for dressing medium to large-sized game animals such as elk. If you are an outdoorsman/woman, you owe it to yourself to own one of these fine knives!
