Dale comes through again with another great knife!!!

I ordered the Laser-Strike blade and the TKC G-10 handles to fit it. The match up is just perfect and a delight to my hand. I have to wonder how I've been able to be satisfied to use knives, all those years, that kinda, sorta, almost fit my hand. Not any more! I now own the "Gold Standard".

The assembled knife pleases me in so many ways, if I had to pick one I'd say the security of the grip would be foremost. My hand naturally finds it's home with the index finger in the deep pocket behind the sharp and the middle finger in the second grove, combines with the thumb groves on top of the blade there is no way my hand can slip forward into the sharp.

I decided to fit a fire-steel into the hollow in the handle and use the extra space to store sections of Vaseline-cotton ball fire starters. Now this isn't an every day usage storage place, I figure to be opening it up only when events take a really grim turn.
A fire-steel 3/8" diameter, will almost but not quite will fit into the gap in the handle. I filed the diameter down to where using my thumbs I could press the fire-steel into the space. The various metals in the fire-steel being very, very, reactive will corrode with enthusiasm. You can see this on U-Tube. Once in place, I sealed the assembly with marine varnish to keep moisture and air out until the fire-steel is needed. I don't honestly know if the Vaseline will evaporate over time or not, I'll need to check it after a year or so.
The reasoning behind coating knife blades is beyond me, but if you were going to do that, wouldn't it make sense to have the lettering and logos changed into something useful?
Sure, put "ESEE and USA in small script down by the handle but leave the blade for illustrations of bear, wolf and cougar tracks. That would be attractive, useful and just might stimulate someone into the appreciation of tracking wildlife.
I'm sure as I continue to use this knife, I'll discover other reasons to be pleased I bought it, but for now I'd really like to thank Dale and the Knife Connection for bring such a variety of quality knives to us!
