The ESEE-4 is a fixed blade outdoor, survival, bushcraft and tactical blade made of 1095 High Carbon Steel which holds an edge through the toughest of chores. The ESEE-4 is the longer, thicker "wilderness" model of the popular ESEE-3 tactical knife. With its 3/16" thick, full flat grind blade, rounded pommel, Micarta handles and light weight, this 7.4 oz knife can serve as a primary backpacking and wilderness survival knife, or fitted to your modular system for duty carry in a tactical environment. This is a survival knife in the truest sense of the word. It is an extremely versatile drop point blade with a 4.5" cutting edge, capable for all manor of outdoor tasks, including field dressing and preparation of medium to large-sized game animals. The blade edge is sharpened to approximately 20 degrees, and the overall length of the knife is 9.0"
Falling between the compact/tactical ESEE 3 and the larger ESEE 5 and ESEE 6 knives, the ESEE 4 is a perfect fit. Just like all ESEE Knives, the ESEE 4 is a no-nonsense knife that you can stake your life on when it comes to performace & durability. The people behind this knife developed it by experience & practical application... not theory. Regardless of your place in life, this knife will soon become your best friend as you experience its superb form & function.
The textured power coat is extremely durable, and will not wear off easily. The 3 5/8" Micarta handle slabs provide most all hand sizes a secure 4 finger grip.
Micarta is a durable material, created from soaking layers of linen cloth/canvas in resin, then compressing them under heat and pressure.
Adding Sporting Field Handles to extend the length of the handle grip beyond the tactical style factory scales is easily achieved by installing our very popular custom G-10 handle scales; they are available in a wide variety of colors. This makes the knife much more comfortable for those with larger hands. Our custom scales bolt on easily, and will transform the function, feel, and appearance of your knife.
ESEE Knives' unique sheath system allows the user to carry the ESEE 4 in a molded plastic sheath securely on a MOLLE Platform in standard or inverted mode (when using the optional MOLLE back). The included paracord and cord lock can be used to fashion a belt loop by running the cord through the sheath attachment holes and securing with cord lock. The paracord can also be used to lash the sheath to a pack. When this knife is used with the optional MOLLE back, the elastic butt cover and Velcro retention strap add additional security measures for jumping from aircraft or other extreme activities that may cause the knife to come loose from the sheath. The sheath system is fully ambidextrous in any carry mode. It can also be belt carried, drop-leg carried or lashed to a pack. The sheath screws are made from stainless steel and no metal snaps are used on the knife retention since they have a tendency to jam with dirt and grime. Thus, this sheath package creates a compact package capable of survival uses, as well as military, law enforcement and rescue duty.
This Knife comes with a unique serial number, Molded Plastic Sheath, Clip Plate, Paracord and Cord Lock, and MOLLE Back. This knife has "-MB" after its part number, indicating that the optional MOLLE Back is included.

This ESEE Knife is made from high carbon 1095 steel. And while 1095 is a top choice for professional cutlery designed for hard use, it will rust and stain if not properly cared for - especially on the cutting edge and around the laser engraving. It is the user's responsibility to keep the blades properly lubricated and cleaned. We suggest using a dry film rust inhibitor such as Sentry Solutions MARINE TUF-CLOTH.
WARRANTY AND CONSTRUCTION INFO:
Esee knives are not considered "high production" due to the care that is taken during the manufacturing process. After the steel is laser cut to size, the knives are heat treated (**see note below). Both Micarta and G-10 handle slabs are profiled and radiused on a CNC milling machine, and each set of handles are matched and fitted to a corresponding knife blank. The reason for this is during the laser cutting process there is a certain amount of tolerance, so one knife may be a few thousanths of an inch bigger (or smaller) than the next. By marrying a set of handles to a blank throughout the manufacturing process, the user ends up with a finely fitted knife. The handles slabs are held in place with three screws fastened with Loctite into a barrel nut. When the handles are assembled, a fiber liner is placed between the Micarta or G-10 slab and tang of the knife. The partially serrated knives are made by milling each serration individually with a 3/8" end mill. Unlike a lot of serrations, these are designed to easily cut through fabrics, rope and other flexible materials.
Partially serrated blades are easily sharpened by honing with a flat hone across them in the same manner as you would hone the plain edge. The textured powder coat we use on Esee knives is a special powder that has an increased amount of resistance to wear and corrosion, while maintaining a smoother feel than oxide or phosphate coatings.
**All ESEE Knives now feature a Rowen Manufacturing heat treat recipe that allows for hardening the blade completely to 57 Rc. while still maintaining flexibility.
No Questions Asked Warranty, from ESEE Knives: "If you screw it up, break it, or cut it in two with a cutting torch, send it back and we'll replace it. Warranty is transferable. In other words, we warranty the knife no matter how many times it's been traded, sold or given away. We don't ask for a sales receipt, date of purchase or where you bought the knife - No fine print and no hassles. We do not warranty against rust or normal wear and tear.
A lot of folks have asked us (ESEE Knives) how we can stay in business offering such great customer service and warranty protection. The answer is simple; we believe that our consumers, as a whole, are honest people. The occasional customers who are dishonest are few and far between, so even if we loose every once in a while due to dishonesty, our reputation of great customer service, regardless of the situation, brings us more good customers."
With the exception of the Lite Machete blade, all ESEE branded knives are manufactured in Idaho Falls, Idaho by Rowen Manufacturing. The Cordura MOLLE backs are sewn in Mexico. Izula gear sewn goods are made in Knoxville, TN.
